It always amazes me that the Shorts Stirling bomber made its maiden flight from Rochester. Given that there was a bit more room than now....
 As a child I used to see as many as 3 Sunderlands bobbing at anchor  on the Medway by the Seaplane works
Only the launching ramp left now.

I remember flying Channel Airways from Rochester to Southend. Must be about 60 yrs ago.

This list is not comprehensive and will probably be added to. It lists Military Airfields and Seaplane Bases. It should be borne in mind that on April 1st 1918, the Royal Naval Air Service and the Royal Flying Corps were merged to form the Royal Air Force. During the Second World War, some airfields were loaned to the United States Army Air Forces (the modern-day United States Air Force not being formed until 1947). It says who occupied the site and the years between which the site was occupied. Sites are listed in alphabetical order.
