It is Beachbum, and although about a mile from my home, I have never been there either. My wife and her friends go quite a lot, probably for the coffee and cake 😁

Over to you…

Possibly an uphill struggle if lots of people refrain because they recognise it...

For those without such knowledge, it is north of the M20 and south of the M2. The grand house is late Victorian, which is not open, but the access is to the 10acre gardens, mainly Edwardian.

Sorry to have been AWOL today, a bit going on including putting away two tonne bags of logs that arrived, stacking them is like dry stone walling and very satisfying, but a little hard on the back!

If you follow the road from Lower Halstow to the A2, Breach Lane, I lived by the A2 junction from 1958 to 72. Eastwoods were still producing bricks and a bike ride down there was a regular entertainment, with a visit to the Post Office for supplies (sweets) a must-do part of the adventure.

Meantime, here is the next one. Not on Street View, but the photo is lifted from the website of the attraction itself.

Thanks for your informative post stuartwaters. The Westmoreland Restoration had to be abandoned. She was stored in a Drydock moored to a Buoy in Lower Halstow reach for some while as Grants were sought  Unfortunately a gale force storm caused it  to sink. With the Aft section of Westmoreland smashed and extensive damage to the rest the restoration became unviable.
There are details on this link:-

Apologies for the delay, life has been very hectic for the last few months. Johnfilmer has it. Lower Halstow it is.

Edith May was restored on the Gridiron located in the dock there and as far as I'm aware, is still based there off-season.

There was a plan to restore another historic vessel there, the Westmoreland, the last of the Brick barges which plied their trade between the various brickworks in Lower Halstow, Otterham Creek and Funton Creek. They used to take a cargo of approximately 80,000 bricks to London and return with rubbish. Children were paid to sift through the rubbish looking for partly-burned coal or coke to fire the brick kilns. At Lower Halstow, a lot of that Victorian and Edwardian rubbish is still there, on the so-called 'Glass bottle beach', made up of millions of tiny pottery and glassware fragments.

The plan to restore the Westmoreland at Lower Halstow came to nothing, something to do with the intention of building a visitors centre at Lower Halstow where the public could watch the restoration for which the local council declined planning consent. Apparently.

All the above may be nonsense, it's a long time since I was last involved in anything to do with the restoration and maintenance of historic vessels.

I must visit some of these North Kent creeks.  The only one I've been to is Conyer and that was many years ago.  It seemed to be a tight community in those days but I guess like many places they've since been infiltrated by 'outsiders'.

Next Village to my Upchurch. "Edith May" on her home berth. I watched her restoration by Eric Geoff and Ed Gransden as it progressed to completion. :)
