DaveTheTrain......Was this your Engine at Faversham ?

DaveTheTrain:
Wow, well done JW.  And JF was so close.

The minor road, directly next to the site is Featherby Road.  The Major Road is the one JW listed.   Featherby road, when I was a lad was passable over a footbridge.  The footbridge was removed when the link road went in.  Of interest the land here was set aside for years, since at least the 1970s in preparation for the link road.  In the end the link road was built about half a mile further West than the land set aside.

I think there was a proper crossing with a crossing here in the 1940s, just visible in the 1940s aerial view.  My grandparents worked this farmland all their lives.

A link to the KLIS map so that you can zoom out and see the other Fort, which I think is called Grange Fort further North.  On the old Forum I believe Rog (Grandarog) put up a bit of history of the site.

Of interest there has been a lot of name changes.  Originally, Featherby Road was Grange Lane.  Also Beechings Way (as it now called) and the crossing I mention above, was known as "Beechums Crossing".  A mate of mine, an old Gillingham resident still refers to the road as "Beechums Way".  I know not the reason for the change.

The location (for those interested) is https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Featherby+Rd,+Gillingham/@51.3830754,0.5772129,451m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x47d8d29aaaaf4011:0xf9af1f3dab531d1d!8m2!3d51.3774137!4d0.5743759!16s%2Fg%2F1vxdxk8g?entry=ttu

That took some finding  ;D

Just off Yokosuka Way near Twydall ?  Will be interesting to learn what the guns were protecting from that position.
