Title: Sheerness foreman
Post by: CAT on February 17, 2021, 04:18:22 PM
Whilst on one of my many pre-lockdown travel, I came across this memorial to Benjamin Wakefield, who is recorded as the Foreman of his Majestys yard at Sheerness in Eastchurch church. Thought it might be of interest?

Salutary reminder of infant mortality: "& six children ... are living".

CAT. Do I read correctly, aged 37 years? Young for a foreman but maybe they all died young in those days & it was a case of filling empty boots?
