East Arrow Bastion, which is located between Hudson’s Bastion and East Demi-Bastion on the north eastern side of Dover Castles outer defences was constructed in the 1790’s as part of a major redevelopment of the castle undertaken by Twiss. It is one of four new outworks which were constructed in this area during this period which were designed to provide gunfire towards the fields to the east of the castle. It has an arrow shaped plan and is accessed via a long tunnel (the East Arrow Passage) which extends under the counterscarp bank starts in the ditch close to the exit from Hudson’s Passage' summarised from English Heritage 2014 Dover Castle Conservation Management Plan.

We visited this site in the early 1960s.There didn't appear much left of the Bastion's earthworks but in the bank at the rear were an entrance and brick walls with musket loopholes. We entered the doorway and I think there were rooms inside with a tunnel leading away in the castle's direction. So it was torches switched on and we set off up the tunnel. This tunnel went under the earthworks of the East Ditch where it came out into a brick lined cutting with a right angle turn leading to steps up to the ditch. We then left the ditch via Hudson's Passage.A later visit showed that the far end of the tunnel had been blocked off.
