Title: H.M.S. Cumberland !
Post by: castle261 on October 10, 2019, 08:33:10 PM
I remember when I was a telegram boy, entering the Royal Dockyard at Chatham, to deliver
telegrams to the Fleet Mail Office at the corner of No 2 basin. I took a wrong turning, and
there in front of me, was this huge ship, H.M.S. Cumberland. She had been steaming earlier
to meet the battleship the Graf Spee, of the Battle of the River Plate fame!

I believe the Cumberland (county class cruiser) was my brother's first ship. This would have been in the late fifties just before she was decommissioned.
