Gravesend shipbuilding

Both Gravesend and Northfleet have a history of shipbuilding. A quick glance at the list of warships built in commercial shipyards under the Kent Built Vessels board will show you just how active the industry was in the area - and those lists just show the warships, never mind the merchant vessels of all shapes and sizes.

I think you are right Smiffy, and I wondered if they were being broken up and not repaired? Certainly one of them appears still to have its military markings. The date would be late 1940-early 1950's.

Looks like we might be looking at some old landing craft here. Do you have a date on these photo's?

Not technically a ship yard, but I have these two images of ship building/repairing at Gravesend
