I've wondered about this photograph for a while - it says "Waterfall Rochester" but I can't place exactly where this could be. Looks like there may be a railway line running by the side of it - anyone got any ideas? It could, of course, be mislabelled.

It looks very 'English' but possibly not Rochester Kent. The only place I could think of in that genera area that has water alongside the railway is Higham. I don't think that water flows though as it's the old canal?

I used to go fishing around Higham Canal in the 1950`s etc. and the land around is very flat hence why a canal was constructed and why have a waterfall on a canal?
Maybe In USA?

I'm well aware of all the other Rochesters, but as John Walker states, the scene looks very English. There was another Rochester photo on the old forum that couldn't be identified, turned out it was actually Rocester in Staffordshire.

Is it a Postcard . There should be some clue on the back ie .printed by or series number etc.

I wonder if it is Allen Creek at Corbett's Glen. It has a Rochester and a river and a railway.

Hard to make out the back but the writing on the place where you put the stamp looks like

If that's the case then it's probably an English scene.

This seems to fit - just north of Rocester. The River Dove runs alongside an abandoned railway line (yellow dots) which curves round into Rocester. The centre red arrow could be where the photo was taken from.

Think you might have that John Walker. Nice bit of detective work. TripAdvisor mentions the many waterfalls along the Dove.

Sorry to rain on anyone's parade, but the location on the Dove is just north of ROCESTER whereas the original says ROCHESTER. I'd agree with Smiffy though that the 1d price indicates the UK or Ireland. I can't see any railway lines in the vicinity of Rochester, Northumberland and so I suspect that it must be our Rochester.

Just a quick thought: we're all assuming that the railway is main line. Could this be along the Chattendon & Upnor military railway?

Need to get hold of the other misspelt Rocester/Rochester postcard and compare the writing on the front. ;D

I'd have to agree that John has the answer to this one and that this would be another incorrectly labelled postcard. The other one that turned out to be Rocester also had "Rochester" clearly written on it as well.

A little antidote, I have been to Rochester, in New York State, & while we were there,
in the Century Wine Store, picking up `iced wine `. I picked up a booklet, stating that
the `Twin Waterfall ` was re-opening in -------------- Chatham in Ontario -- Canada.

Re Chatham (waterfall). If you go to Cape Cod in Mass., on the drive out to Princetown ( where the Pilgrim fathers landed) you go past Chatham, a nice little town with a lighthouse. I wonder how many Chatham's there are in the world, hundreds I'm sure.

Stranger still Dave Smith, The Chatham in Ontario, is in `Kent County` & it has/had a Dockyard too.
22 Chatham`s in America -- Chatham Town / Chatham village, both in New York ( State ? )
