MartinR. I watched the Pathe video of the unveiling at the War Memorial on the Lines by Prince Philip. Thanks. Also on that site was another, of the launching of a submarine at Chatham Dockyard in 1937. Stuart, I'm sure will be able to recognise which one it was please?- Just like that!

grandrog. Very interesting story, we had lots of stamina in those days of youth, many thanks. I think Prince Phillip will be sorely missed, particularly by Her Majesty. A true warrior, who wasn't too afraid to speak what came into his head at times. Upset some but made the rest of us laugh. RIP

Had the privilege  of being spoken to by His Royal Highness Phillip, at Luqa Airport Malta in 1964. As a member of the RAF Guard of Honour. We greeted him with a Royal Salute when he arrived to conduct the Independence Ceremony.
We spent 2 days at the Airport greeting all the arriving Royals and Dignitary's from around the World..Even Gaddafi ,(before he went mad,)who looked like an undertaker.
For the actual Independence flag raising ceremony at Midnight we were at the Floriana Barracks Square from 18.00 to 02,00. On parade with the Army and Navy Guards of Honour from 23.00 until 01.30.

RIP Phillip. Loyal Husband of our Queen.
