The old Lion Pub was closed in 1945 and has been housing ever since. Currently will be demolished for new flats. First Photo circa 1942 Second last year.

I was intrigued as the earlier photo showed the pub on a street corner, but in the later picture the side road had vanished.

Then I found that it was on Church Street and was alongside the old Lloyd’s Paper Mill, now totally changed into Morrison’s and new housing.

For others trying to place all this, the pub is just in the blocked off entrance on your left as you go from the traffic lights outside Morrison’s (also on your left), heading towards the roundabout and Milton. The old paper mill railway crossed to the mill about the end of Church Street.
