I met Rod Hull once in 1972.
The old Labour Exchange was in the "White Rock" East Street Sittingbourne. I was there signing on after I demobbed from the RAF .Ex Police Sgt Meredith of Sittingbourne fame was my dole officer. While I was talking with him there wqs a ho ha ruccus coming form another cubicle.Turned out it was Rod Hull .He was not a happy bunny.
When we were leaving he had a moan to me.
They hadn't paid him because he had failed to sign on. He was living at Milstead at the time.He had an old Escort Car .Don't think he had found fame with Emu then.

While walking in Rochester High Street - I looked at this man crouched looking at the ground,
crossing the road - I knew who it was straight away - This man was famous for an animal on
television. He knew I was looking at him - that`s why he was crouching. He was a very shy man.
On television, he did shine - At the time he owned Restoration House - in Crow Lane.
We passed without speaking - Later I learnt he was fixing a t v aerial on another house -
when he fell - he never recovered from his injuries & died - That man was ----- Rod Hull...

The house took him over. He spent so much restoring the place. I think with very little money left, he went to Devon. There he was trying to fix a tv aerial when he fell. I took pictures of him once at his Rochester house. Very shy man and walking down the high street he didn't like being recognised.  Very sad.
