Thanks JohnFilmer.  Your comments about Ulcombe Place sparked my interest.  I've found this link which describes it and has photos.  As you say, it's quite a place.

Next one up shortly.

ps. it seems rather quiet on here at present.  I hope everyone is ok.

That’s the Place (!) JW.

A very long history, but well concealed so many people have no clue what is there.

My mother went there on some specially arranged Jolly with the Rainham Townswoman’s Guild 35+ years ago, and was quite impressed.

Over to you JW

Whew!!!!   Found it.  Halfway down Ulcombe Hill.  Next to the entrance to Ulcombe Place.   All Saints Church of Ulcombe nearby.

Sorry if I confused everyone, by village name I meant such as Wychling church, as opposed to St Margaret at Wychling, if that makes sense.

Struggling here.  I can't find any church in the area with a village name.  So far I can only find  Saint  xxxxx's Churches.  Perhaps I'm searching the wrong area ie.  either side of Sutton Valence/  :)

The village of the same name as the church and this house lies at the bottom of the hill upon which they are built, although they are not at the very top unlike others along the ridge.

There are a series of churches along the top of the ridge, the house that we seek is close to one, can’t be seen from the road, and only on the aerial view from Google.

JW Sutton Valence is a different angle on the same view across the Weald.

Brands Hatch: I still Marshal there now johnfilmer and will be at the Superbikes next weekend.
I also have memories of Jerry Marshall in a variety of cars, one being a massive Aston Martin. He liked to start at the back and work his way through to the win.

My first outings were to the Transatlantic Races (Bikes). BOAC 6 hour races were great and hearing the Mazda Rotary reving at 17,000 revs (Johny Herbert). Seeing Nigel Mansell win was a great moment too.

I must admit that I'm never sure of exactly where the edges of the Greensand Ridge and the Downs are.

Are we near Sutton Valence ?
