If that happens again. Click on Modify Post. Then Highlight the small lines . Click on font size box and select 12. Text will then appear at readable size.

Dear History Brethren, i need your expert experience, please.Hoo Salt Marsh (or Hoo island is what i call it), used to be made up of several smaller marshy islands which were gradually joined together through dredging material being deposited over a wide area making it what it is today. On a map from around 1870, there is a 'Red House' marked by what i think is an enclosure prolly meant for animals.I've seen 'Red House' marked on another map and I'm guessing it might be another description for an abattoir, but that's just a guess.Has anyone else seen similar or know what this could be, please? (zero point for anyone who suggests its a house painted red! )Many thanksAdmiral

for some unknown reason, my first post didn't show the text - I find its surprisingly less than straight forward posting anything on this forum, its either the photos are a problem of the text!

Anyway... here's what was meant to be in the previous post:

Dear History brethren,

I would like your expert advice on the attached map from 1870 which show a hexagon (this is an embanked enclosure of some kind) and a 'Red House' marked in it.

I have seen 'Red House' on other maps and I'm guessing this might be another name for an abattoir, but that's just a guess.

Has anyone seen similar or know what this might refer to, please? (zero points for anyone suggesting its a house painted red!  :P )

Many thanks
